About OEC

Oilfield Energy Center

Our Mission Statement

The Oilfield Energy Center is dedicated to expanding awareness of the vast hydrocarbon energy resources beneath the world’s surface, supporting global stewardship in the communities that develop these resources and to chronicle the unique heritage and technical accomplishments of the industries that discover, produce and deliver energy to humankind in a safe and environmentally responsible way.

The objectives of this mission statement are being met through a three-fold plan developed by the Center. First, the Ocean Star Offshore Drilling Rig Museum and Education Center was established in Galveston, Texas. Second, the Offshore Pioneers Hall of Fame was established to recognize and record the individual and technological achievements of the offshore energy industry. Third, Education Outreach Programs have been developed for students, teachers and the general public.

    1. The first element of the Oilfield Energy Center’s mission is sponsoring the Ocean Star Offshore Drilling Rig Museum and Education Center, opened in 1997. Visitors to the Ocean Star Drilling Rig Museum and Education Center enjoy learning about real operating offshore rigs and specialized oilfield equipment in a comfortable atmosphere while experiencing the ambience and accessibility of a quality museum. The museum also includes a conference facility and fully equipped areas that can be utilized for training.

    2. The Hall of Fame recognizes leaders, pioneers, innovators, and technologies that have formed the foundations of the onshore and offshore industry. Our Pioneers are individuals who distinguish themselves and become the character of the industry through their vision, drive, innovation, and leadership. These people are recognized in the Hall of Fame housed at the museum. Pioneering Technologies are those innovations that stand out in the development of the oil and gas industry and its resources. The Hall of Fame also honors the individuals and companies that contributed to the development of these technologies. Additionally, in 2000, the Pinnacle Award was established to honor contemporary individuals for their contributions and inspirational leadership to the oil and gas industry.
    3. The Oilfield Energy Center’s Education Outreach Programs were established in 2000. Informing the public about the industry, including its history and its safety and environmental record is of paramount importance among the Center’s objectives. The purpose of the outreach program is to promote awareness, teachings and understanding of the world’s hydrocarbon energy resources among students and educators. The Center works to enhance science and technology curriculum with information about oil and gas exploration and development and promote awareness of the technology to explore and develop oil and gas resources. The programs are also designed to develop awareness of our industry’s contribution to the environment, stewardship and our quality of life.

The Oilfield Energy Center is based in Houston, the world’s energy capital. The Ocean Star Offshore Drilling Rig Museum and Education Center is docked at Pier 19 in Galveston, less than an hour from downtown Houston, which makes it a wonderful showcase in a perfect location for an “offshore” experience. Please feel free to contact us if you have any questions about OEC.
