Arthur Lubinski

After fighting with the
French resistance in World War II, Arthur Lubinski emigrated to the United
States and applied his training in mechanical engineering to the
development of improved methods of oil well drilling. During his 25-year
career at Amoco, Lubinski utilized advanced mathematical models to solve
practical problems such as the prevention of drill pipe buckling through
the use of multiple drill collars. After work on Project Mohole and the
Scripps Deep Sea Drilling Project, he was responsible for the API's
standardization task force for mooring of floating structures. After
retiring from Amoco, he served as a consultant for Smith International for
another 20 years.
