The Offshore Energy Center's Education Outreach Program was established in 1999.  Educating the public about the industry, including its history and its safety and environmental record is of paramount importance among the OEC's objectives.

The purpose of the outreach program is to enhance science and technology curriculums for school children, from kindergarten through grade 12, utilizing teacher workshops, field trips and overnight and summer camps. The Center works with schools, Boy and Girl Scouts and teachers to promote the importance (past, present and future) of the offshore energy industry and its contributions to our quality of life. The program is also designed to ensure awareness of the industry's contribution to and continued improvement of our environment.

An Advisory Committee, consisting of individuals representing various industry and governmental organizations, operators, drilling contractors and service companies, oversees the Educational Outreach Program. An Educational Outreach Mission Statement has been developed, and goals and objectives to develop vision, direction and planning outreach strategies have also been formulated.

Assisting the Education Director is the Offshore Energy Center Education Committee (OECEC) consisting of educators from the surrounding area.  Together, these members have aligned various science state curricula with the Project Eł: Expanding Energy Education (Project E3), developed curriculum, facilitated and recruited teachers for workshops and worked on developing the Mobile Offshore Learning Units (MOLUs).
